ASK DYNAMITE:
Each week, or as available, we'll pull a letter and answer it here and in our companion podcast, send all letters to: letters@dynamiteentertainment.com) and mark them "ok to print"!
PATRICK WRITES: "I have a question to ask of both John Cassaday and Matt Wagner. As the respective art directors and cover illustrators for The Lone Ranger and Zorro, I wonder, are you or have you ever been tempted to contribute to the interiors? Thanks for your time and as always, I wish you my best. Bye for now."
We weren't able to get Matt or John to answer here directly, BUT we can twll you that we have plans for both Zorro and Lone Ranger that would allow for creators to work on short stories involving the characters. That includes in-demand guys like John and Matt who may not have the time for full-length comics featuring either the Ranger or Zorro... stay tuned!
DYNAMITE IN THE NEWS:
THE BOYS: HEROGASM #1 (ComicBookResources): "Herogasm #1 is a brisk and entertaining read."
THE COMPLETE DRACULA #1 (Best Shots@Newsarama): "Another reason to take a look is the terrifically styled painted art of Colton Worley. Worley does a beautiful job with everything in this book, from pastoral vistas to leering vampire brides, from doomed sailing vessels to the threatening darkness of a snowy Walpurgis Nacht."
THE BLACK TERROR #4 (ComicsBulletin): "Mike Lilly produces some notable moments, such as when the Terror realizes when he's not alone in his fight against the U.S. Government. In addition, the two page spread of the team attacking the patriotic heroes stands out. The scenes of battle are exciting and the reunion between the Black Terror and the Kid Terror is emotional without trudging through the gutters of schmaltz. Andrade's colors also enliven the proceedings with the heroes acting as a rainbow cavalcade of against a symbolic overwhelming of red, white, and blue."
THE COMPLETE DRACULA #1 (ComicsBulletin): "Colton Worley's artwork is also worthy of praise. His painted style comes close to being photo-realistic at times, but he still manages to capture the heightened sense of atmosphere that the early chapters of the story rely upon to draw readers in."
THE COMPLETE DRACULA #1 (ProjectFanboy): "...this book is a great buy if you are into classic horror or even just classic literature. Stoker's pacing and imagination are truly captivating after all of these years. Also, this creative team included material that I had not seen in any Dracula works before. Using information from the Bram Stoker short story Dracula's Guest, this book will give a greater insight into Dracula's origin and how he became the monster that he is."
THE COMPLETE DRACULA #1 (HyperGeek): "As I have mentioned previously, the story is told from the perspectives of several different characters, and from both letters and typewriter transcribed notes. This method of storytelling could easily get very confusing, but thankfully we are saved from bewilderment by the expert lettering skills of Simon Bowland. Bowland manages to keep the look of each character's captions quite unique and distinct from one another. This really helps with the flow of the story, and helps differentiate whose perspective each part of the tale is told from. Bowland's design and letting skills are really quite brilliant. I have noticed his work in several other Dynamite books, and I am continually impressed by his amazing talents."
SHERLOCK HOLMES #1 (FantasyBookCritic): "Holmesian lore, judging by the last pages of issue 1, is never going to be the same again. Even though being a huge fan of the Detective myself, I strongly hope so, for it's always refreshing to see new approaches to old friends. I liked what I saw and I definitely want to see more of it. Good job, old chaps!"
